The Forests of Gylranor

The forests scattered across the Mundolith of Gylranor are as ancient as the Primals themselves. Many of these trees were planted during the Years of the Wilds and survived the Sundering of Nindoras.

We begin this geographical lore with the continent of Barbatius, home to two major forests: the Wood of Dargenohm and Joricath Forest. The Wood of Dargenohm fills the ranges of the Pellenur Mountains to the west, while Joricath Forest surrounds the tip of the Yenemerom Mountains, stretching all the way to the coast.

Travel a bit southwest from Barbatius, and you will find yourself upon Saluron. Though Argoth contains only a few small woods, Darkwood is home to the largest forest in all the island continent—Kaggen’dor Thicket. It spans from one end of the Taladar Mountains to the other, extending to the Nolu’gath Coast. Darkwood’s capital, Maracath, was built on the forest’s edge, knowing it offers added protection should the Argoms ever plan to attack the Orcen city.

Navigate south into the ancient continent of Tinith, a land adventurers and explorers know all too well for its dangerous, thick forest called Mereb’rah Jungle. Its atmosphere is often humid and hot, teeming with life: wondrous birds, enormous insects, electrifying salamanders, and much more. The Goblins of Zal’man often venture into this jungle to test their skill in both weaponry and magic.

Continue traveling south from Mereb’rah Jungle, past the Silver Mountains, and you will reach Belwyn Forest, situated within the confines of Thel Emon.

Sailing from Thel Emon to Wealtherab Bay in Nell, one can disembark near the Dark Mire, a dense and shadowed forest nestled beside a marsh. Many alchemists travel here in search of rare and potent ingredients for their potions and draughts. Trekking northeast from the Dark Mire brings you to Maradine Forest, which is shared with Ni’shorus. Farther north, in Edelas, lies the smaller forest of Tarruin, resting against the towering Rosnian Mountains near the Annals of Elga’min and Edelas Arcane University, formerly the University of Elvic Magic.

From a river port in Edelas, take a ferry south down Mazgadar’s Strait, and you can anchor near the small forest known as Oslac’s Sanctum, where the local Dwarves plant and harvest timber. From there, traversing the rocky roads, travelers can cut across the Rosnian Mountains to reach hundreds of open fields belonging to a collective of agricultural farms known across Uln Alzor as Morthdryn’s Farmstead. On the outskirts of the Farmstead lies Bolwood, a forest containing an entrance to a Masixian catacomb.

The last of the great forests of Uln Alzor is Nerim, clustered between the Helin and Bol Faras Mountains, with miles of dense growth stretching deep into the heart of the Helin.

Insetia consists mainly of scattered woodlands and grasslands, with much of its center given over to endless swamps.

Hilrayn, the smallest of the seven continents, contains only modest woods, none large enough to warrant naming here.

Lastly, the Naros Archipelago has most of its islands covered in trees.w It is said that before the Sundering of Nindoras—when the world was not fractured—these different forests were once united as the legendary Gardens of Silorus, where the Primal often dwelt, preferring the vast greenery over the blues of water or the grays of stone. Remnants of the Gardens linger upon the isle of Ssalith and the storied Ururazan, the Isle of the Ancients, though the latter lies within the realm of Uln Alzor. There, Azndyr rises in solemn majesty, its towering redwoods guarding the ancient home of the extinct Giants.
